A largish ground dwelling spider. Quite fast. Not typically aggressive, but can become so if captured or cornered. This large female was on the ground in my backward. I asked my mum to shine a torch on it, so that I could accurately focus on it (manual focus, no AF!). I was probably 20CM away from it, flat on the ground. And yes, I do have a severe Arachnophobia. Some interesting facts about this family of spiders - they carry their young on their backs and the female with guard them with her life, and they can see a full 360° in real time. Some people have claimed that their bite causes necrosis of the flesh, but this is false.
