The Australian King-Parrot is a popular, well-known medium sized parrot. They, like many bird species, have adapted very well to human urban society. Many are regular visitors to homes. Please do not feed them, as it increases their dependency on humans. Sunflower seeds are bad for their liver. Fruit is a much better choice.
This is a younger female, with the image taken in February 2018 that was visiting our rear deck. She was clearly unwell. we'd had a period of heavy rain for 4 or 5 days. We were able to capture her with the intentions of nursing her back to health with readily available food and water, protection and shelter, but after 2 days she appeared stressed and we released her. She hung around for a few days after this, but then disappeared, never to be seen again, presumably succumbing to whatever health issues were present.
