The Laughing Kookaburra is the largest member of the Kingfisher family in the world. It has adapted very well to human urban society and is a common sight. It has become increasingly common for them to visit humans on a regular basis for food. This should be discouraged. An iconic bird, well known for its laugh.
An important animal in Aboriginal dreamtime myths. The Laughing Kookaburra is known as "Goo-goor-gaga" and is charged with waking up the world in the morning with its laugh.
As an indigenous person, I find it shameful that our Australian government does not mandate the telling of Aboriginal dreamtime myths in our public schools.
